wind slits

  • The Importance of Wind Slits

Wind slits are an important feature in the creation of outdoor banners. When our clients order a banner from us, there is an option to include wind slits with their order. Typically, clients will opt for the slits if their banners are being placed outdoors or in places with high wind advisory.

What are wind silts?  Wind slits are half moon or half circle shaped cuts that allow wind to easily flow through your banner. These wind slits help to prevent stress from the wind that can destroy your banner over time. The picture below has a picture of what proper wind slits should look like.

Why should you use wind slits?  Wind slits are usually a personal preference - however, they are typically used when our customers need to place them in high-wind advisory areas. Strong wind can lead to premature banner ripping, and may reduce your banner's lifespan. Wind slits are great for preventing this, because they help to reduce the damage that wind can do to your banner over time. They're a great precaution against banner damage and ripping.

For example, an outdoor banner like the one below could probably benefit from wind slits (assuming they're in an extremely windy location). See those little marks in the banner? They're the wind slits!

Although wind slits are important, they are not a necessity. Large outdoor Banners can still be placed outside without wind slits, if you're willing to forego having them. Many of our customers avoid the wind slits to maintain the aesthetic of the banner. Wind slits are just a way of preventing your banner from being damaged or misplaced by the wind.
