Animation has come a long way from the days of our traditional cartoons. Out went our favorite classics like Tom and Jerry and in came the new age of cartoons propelled by digital animations and computer generated imagery. This new technology has revolutionized animations and cartoons, improving their once fuzzy quality to a crystal clear image consistent across multiple platforms.

PlainJoe Studios Crossroads Church bunnyThe advances made in animation and digital imagery have not only improved the quality of cartoons, but have improved animated graphics of every form. Even with a conventional printer, you can print out animated images that are far superior than the quality you would have received not too long ago. Many media and design groups are using this to their advantage and producing amazing results.

PlainJoe Studios Crossroads Church pigeonPlainJoe Studios is a group that specializes in interactive media and design, greatly benefiting from the way digital animation has advanced within the past 2 decades. Some of their services include website development, environmental design, and media creation. They’ve provided solutions for many, most of which are exemplar representations of where digital animation and imaging is today.

PlainJoe Studios Crossroads church gopherCrossroads Church has used PlainJoe Studios for their digital media needs, which have come out flawless. Looking to decorate their environmental room, Crossroads Church had PlainJoe Studios create a few animals along with some scenery. They provided Crossroads with a full forest of fun for their room which we helped make life-sized. We took these animals and printed them onto metal, making them full-size, extremely durable cutouts. Check them out for yourself!

Each print is not only crystal clear, but the color used is so vivid that its makes each animal almost come to life!

  • Stagecoach Music Festival

Coachella round 2 anyone? Even if you’re still pooped from the past two weekends, you may have to hear this one out. Believe it or not there is a second music festival held at the Empire Polo Grounds the weekend after the Coachella madness. Both being ran by the same company, Stagecoach is considered the cousin of Coachella, but this festival has a complete different focus. Unlike Coachella’s broad range of artists encompassing many genres, Stagecoach has one musical focus, country.

    stagecoach name wood print

Stagecoach is solely dedicated to country music and bringing out the best country artists of today. Some of the artists headlining this years festival include Tim McGraw, Miranda Lambert, Blake Shelton, Dierks Bentley, The Band Perry, and ZZ Top. Stagecoach is a much newer festival compared to Coachella, but since 2007 the festival has grown exponentially and has begun receiving sellout crowds.

One of the best parts of large music festivals, besides the music of course, are all the attractions on the festival grounds. For Stagecoach, there are a variety of well-known food and beverage vendors that come from all over the country such as Ruth’s Chris Steak House and Pink’s Hot Dogs. Food isn’t the only thing you can get besides music, on top of these eateries there are also multiple full bars, cantinas, and even a petting zoo for the kids!

There are some amazing food vendors that come out, but each year they have to compete with the barbeque contest. Through the Kansas City BBQ Society, the Stagecoach Invitational BBQ Championship was created bringing teams from around the country to put their grillin’ skills to the test. They even created a trophy, deeming it the KCBS California state championship.

Large festivals such as Stagecoach provide so many things to do for everyone, which allows us to be all the more creative when making the festival’s signage. Starting with the entrance, we covered the wristband scanners with vinyl. Coroplast signs were used for the Half-Pint Hootenanny, water refill station, petting zoo, vendor price listing, and the honkeytonk.

  • The Who 50th Anniversary Tour

Who’s that? The Who is who it is. One of the most influential rock bands of the 20th century, The Who introduced many new concepts to rock, including rock opera, while staying true to the sound. Their style was unique compared to the bands of their time like The Beatles and The Rolling Stones, they focused on the problems they knew people were dealing with, and this resulted in great success for them.

The Who 50th Anniversary Tour photos

The Who is a staple of rock music, and to commemorate their anniversary, they knew they couldn’t stop anywhere short of amazing. The Who is going on a legendary 50th anniversary tour across North America and Europe, to celebrate their golden anniversary.

Lead singer Roger Daltrey has been quoted in Rolling Stone saying that this tour is the beginning of a long goodbye, giving the tour that much more significance. The tour will be ran by AEG, an entertainment group that is dedicated to providing all aspects of live music performances for groups and performers. Knowing this is The Who’s last WHOrah makes creating the best tour possible a top priority.

The Who Anniversary Tour promo prints

AEG wanted to make every aspect of this tour spectacular, from when you enter to when you exit. With their VIP meet and greet in mind, they came to us wanting a display for their meet and greet. With a collection of photos from many different decades, we created collages of their history to be displayed when they meet their faithful. Rather than a vinyl  banner or other material, we chose to put these collages on metal, so they could be used at each tour stop without going through any wear and tear while also being able to stand on their own.

The final products are great pieces that fans will be able to take pictures by while meeting Roger Daltrey and Pete Townshend, adding to the memories for The Who as well as their loyal fans.

  • Fountain Springs Church

With April right around the corner, Easter preparations are well underway. Painting eggs, eating spring-themed candy and chocolate Easter bunnies are just part of getting into the Easter spirit. Aside from all the bright colors and candy that Easter may provide us, it is a religious holiday of the Christian faith, so we must respect this aspect of the holiday. Christian churches across the country will be having services for the holiday, but one will tailor their message based on the target audience.

Fountain Springs Church has excelled at providing groups of all ages with activities at their church making it an all inclusive family experience. While the adults experience a more traditional service, there are programs for nursery, preschool, elementary, and pre-teens so kids can have a more engaged experience instead of a lecture style teaching, so they do not get bored as quickly. Fountain Springs emphasizes the importance of cultivating the next generation of young adults and children, which is why they create programs for each age group of youth. There are also weekly gatherings for both middle school and high school students allowing them to apply their faith when analyzing daily occurrences as well as events in the world.

    Easter Church Banner

In order to promote their Easter celebration on their elementary school campus, Fountain Springs Church wanted a outdoor banner done to show the way they’ve influenced peoples lives. With a group of pictures they sent us from their services and events, we made a collage out of the banner, using the pictures as the background for the banner. In the center of the banner, “Easter at the Civic Center” is written largely in a teal circle. On the top of the banner, the church’s website is present with a teal background to contrast the rest of the collage. Going across the bottom of the banner are the dates and times of the two Easter services being offered, also with a teal background to be more visible. The result is a beautiful banner that has enough color and contrast to catch the eye without being too overwhelming, the perfect display for Fountain Springs’ Easter services.

With IPOs and venture capital investment rapidly increasing year by year, the opportunity for getting into business has only gotten brighter. Given the proper training, succeeding in the business world is very feasible. Luckily for us, we have one of the premier business schools right in our backyard in Southern California.

    California baptist university

More than 7,000 students from across the nation and world travel here to discover and live their purpose from among more than 150 majors and concentrations including accounting, engineering, marketing, music, nursing and theology.

The Jabs School of Business at California Baptist University has excelled at providing students with the skills needed to engage, analyze, and improve business operations. On top of the bachelors’ available in accounting, administration, and marketing, there are some new options in the MBA program. The Daytime MBA is a new, accelerated one year program that is designed to be flexible for the young professional. Students also receive mentorship throughout the process to ensure that they have the assistance they need.

In order to promote their new Daytime MBA program, the Jabs School of Business contacted us and we knew just the solution that would work. Targeting a high traffic area, we created a huge vinyl banner which was placed on the Wallace Theatre wall, making it noticeably visible when walking between the business school and the dining hall. Highlighting the focal points of the program, the banner is attention-grabbing and concise.

The new Daytime MBA program should be a huge success, allowing students to get valuable experience while getting their degree simultaneously to prepare them for the new age of business.

We didn’t stop at just making banners for CBU, we even took care of their vehicle wrap needs. The CBU safety services wanted to distinguish their vehicle from the average SUV for identification purposes and we definitely separated them from the crowd.

    CBU safety services car wrap

The design begins with a matte navy blue wrap around the whole car which includes the back two windows and the back windshield. CBU safety services is big in white across the doors on each side, with the school’s alternate logo besides it in gold. Next to the logo towards the back of the car is the slogan “service, safety, security” as another way to distinguish their role on campus. The hood of the car also has their name and on the trunk door is their phone number.

This wrap does a great job of adding a modern touch to the traditional, blue law enforcement look. CBU safety services will be clearly distinguishable on campus to those they are trying to provide security to as well as those they are trying to prevent.

  • Baker's Drive Thru

How often do you go to a restaurant or store and see them advertising their product with colorful signs or displays? Sometimes, I find these can be repetitive as you are already in their store so you can generally look around and see what products they have to offer, but they do a lot more to the consumer than we realize. Now before you say “I’m not the regular naive shopper! Those silly ads don’t affect any of my purchasing decisions!” think again….because whether you like it or not, they do. You may not realize that the display is there, but it puts the thought of the specific product they are advertising in your mind, leaving you to do the rest. Point of purchase displays will directly channel your consumers’ attention toward a designated product, potentially making them a new customer, while increasing brand awareness to those who choose to not consume.

Baker's Burgers Drive Thru Specials signage

The concept of point of purchase displays is simple, strategically set up an eye-catching display where your customer is about to make a purchase so they can be influenced to buy whatever item is being advertised. This strategy increases sales and generates additional revenue, so its important to understand its magnitude to better implement it.

    Baker's burgers new menu signs

According to sparinc.com, in a study of 80,000 point of purchase displays in 32 different consumer markets covering 45 different chains and 250 stores, the Advertising Research Foundation has found that point of purchase displays significantly increase sales revenue. This study has also given us data on which displays are the most effective. When using a case wrap to store displays, retailers had a sales increase of 12% for their product. Cardboard cutouts increased sales by 27%, inflatable or mobile displays increased sales of specific product by 40% on average, and displays that were associated with a sport, charity, or movie had a sales increase of 65% of their products.Baker's Burger Driver Thru Signs

Point of purchase displays are an extremely effective way to influence the purchasing decision and raise sales revenue. Baker’s Drive Thru understands the importance of point of purchase displays, and asked us to create window wall and coroplast signs for all their locations to promote some of their new offers. By advertising some of their new beverage and meal promotions through the window, they will catch the attention of people going through the drive thru and ultimately get some of them to purchase the product being advertised.

  • MONSTER MEDIA AT THE 2014 AGENDA TRADE SHOW

Monster Media is proud to announce that we will be attending Southern California's biggest and bestest Surf/Skate/Snow trade show this year. That's right, we're going to be at the Agenda Trade Show, taking place over two days (January 7th & 8th) at the Long Beach Convention Center.

Where will our booth be located? *Cue nervous laughter* Ha ha... er... um, funny story about that. We don't actually HAVE a booth per say, we're going in punk rock! "Punk Rock" as in we're heading to the trade show with a bag full of mini desktop wood prints so we can hand them out to anyone who comes up to us and says "Hi." (Not "punk rock" as in panhandling for money outside of Taco Bell to buy a $150 dollar leather jacket)

The elusive (and incredibly handsome) Derric from Monster Media will have his boots on the ground for the two day event, so if you see someone looking like the image provided below, come up to him and introduce yourself.

One more month until the Fourth of July!

Break out the grills! Bring on the fireworks! Sit your butt down in a lawn chair with an ice-cold lemonade and just snooze until it’s nighttime! Now, that’s my kind of Fourth of July.

It’s not too early to start thinking of what your plans might be: concert in the park? How about a beach barbecue? Or perhaps just a nice quiet day before the nighttime festivities commence?

My grandparents have a tradition of honoring servicemen on the Fourth of July. After all, it is Independence Day, and also honors those in our military. Well, if you’ve got a loved one coming home for the Fourth of July, or want to show some small-town appreciation, consider creating an outdoor banner that you can hang in a public space.

Now, other members of my family like to party. Hard. Not ‘hard’ as in drinking, but ‘hard’ as in a mile-long buffet stuffed into someone’s living room for over 40 people.

This year, we’re thinking of holding it in a park somewhere. You know, rent a gazebo, get all dolled up in matching shirts (embarrassing), and stuff ourselves until we can’t fit down the slide.

However, since we’ve got family coming from all across Southern California, it’s going to be a little difficult for them to find us, especially in an unfamiliar area. So, I’ve got a plan to make a Fourth of July banner that we can hang along the gazebo. Also, we’ll procure some yard signs to point the way from the parking lot. It’s a big park.

So, if you’re planning an extra-large shindig this Independence Day, or want to show your love for our armed forces, say it with an outdoor banner this July!

  • Top Ten SXSW Posters

SXSW (or South by Southwest for non-natives) is a music, film, and trade festival that takes place every year in Austin, TX. Hosted by mostly indie-produced media, it's a ton of fun, entertainment, and the perfect look-out for upcoming heavy-hitters.

It's known as the biggest music festival of it's kind, with performances all over the city in at least 100 venues.  As far as I know, many indie films have been picked up there, or by other festivals like Sundance, by big Hollywood studios for distribution. In recent years, they've attached a Gaming Expo and a trade floor to expand their audience. It's what makes festivals like this great and what makes them cool. And all in all, it turns Austin into the city that never sleeps for a week.

They've also got some of the best poster designs I've ever seen. They truly go out of the box and don't employ your average marketing firm to handle the advertising. I've scoured the interwebs and collected my personal favorite Top Ten SXSW Posters. Take a glance through the art, and I hope that you are inspired to go out of your comfort zone and create a poster that will knock the pants off of your customers.

  • Valentine's Day - Part 2!

Hello all you lovebirds and solo flyers!

Valentine's Day is only a week away, and even if you don't have a special someone to snuggle up to, just hark back to your elementary school days: bring candy for everyone!

Last time, I gave you some tips on the "language of flowers" and how different flowers have different messages. It's cute, maybe a little cheesy, but be careful not to send the wrong message! Remember: a yellow confection means rejection...(i.e. avoid yellow flowers!)

Today I'm bringing you a little history, and possible ideas, on how other countries celebrate Valentine's Day. In particular, Japan!

Japan actually celebrates 2 holidays related to Valentine's Day: the heart day itself, February 14th, and White Day, which is March 14th.

    On Valentine's Day...

It's ONLY the girls who bestow gifts on the guys in Japan. Traditionally, it's chocolate, or homemade chocolate to make it even better.

This tradition originated as an error made in a marketing campaign back in the 1960's, by a chocolate manufacturer. They designed an ad that was targeted just for office women to give confectionaries to their male co-workers. It wasn't necessarily as a symbol of love, but rather of friendly affection and generosity. However, because it was only aimed for office women, the trend spiked into women giving more then the men. Even in Japanese schools, girls can take classes on how to make chocolate just for Valentine's Day, and love to give them to boys they have deeper affection for. For some of the lucky ones, it leads to a date ;)

However, the Japanese National Confectionary Industry Association (what a mouthful!), realized the error in the original campaign and launched a movement for a "reply day" for men, which became known as...

    White Day!

White Day is March 14th, and was created in the 1980's. On this day, it's expected that any man who received a gift on Valentine's Day, bestow a gift that is valued at least 2 or 3 times more to those same women.  In the past decade, these gifts have evolved from chocolate and flowers, to jewelry, clothing, entertainment gifts (like manga, movies and CD's) and lingerie.

If you recall from my last Valentine's Day post, the color white signifies and pure and sweet innocence or affection. So, it's an appropriate title for a man who may not want to pursue romantic interests, but simply return something of more value than was given.

So there you have it! A little history on the love day in another nation. Don't forget, if you're planning a big Valentine's Day bash, or maybe YOU want to celebrate White Day too, swing on over to our custom banners to get started on your party planning!

Tune in next week, when I'll bring you a list of do's and don'ts of Valentine's Day gifts.
